Our Current Needs

Charity Fund

Description

As a charity Oakfield Community are able to fundraise to provide many 'extras' for the benefit of the people we support. These extras are provided through additional charity funds, kindly donated and fundraised, and are essential in Oakfield reaching our vision - 'to enable adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities and autism to live meaningful lives'.

Need & Outcomes

  • If a person we support has an unplanned stay in hospital, Oakfield send a member of staff to stay with them 24/7 if necessary. This is costly extra which needs funds to cover the cost. This ensures the person we support has reduced stress and anxiety, and makes them feel more comfortable in the hospital setting.
  • Oakfield plans many trips out for the people we support, including to the theatre, for lunch and dinner and bowling. These trips are highly enjoyed by the people we support, supporting them to become active members of the community.
  • Trips and Activities can be suggested by the people we support directly during 'Being Heard Meetings', allowing them to have independence and choice in their everyday lives. For example, in a recent meeting, a crazy golf course was suggested by the people we support. Future trips and activities would not be possible without the Charity Fund.
  • Oakfield also plans holidays for the people we support, enabling them to see new settings and environments.
  • This fund supports the birthday celebrations of the people we support, including parties, which contribute to their sense of belonging and happiness at Oakfield.
  • In order to create meaningful in-house activities for those we support, equipment such as karaoke machines, basketball stands and swings for the garden are purchased to aid these activities. At our Yardley Hastings site, development such as building a summer house and pagoda for the people we support is in discussion, so that they can enjoy the fresh air whilst being protected from the sun.

Easton Maudit Refurbishment

(Underway)

Description

Our Easton Maudit home is undergoing a full renovation. There is an on-going building programme to update and improve our accommodation at Easton Maudit.  During 2021-2025 there will be an extensive building plan to ensure the highest standards for everyone residing at Easton Maudit.  This plan will incorporate the new way of thinking; a push from residential care to supported living. This redevelopment aims to build 16 new supported living accommodation areas for the people we support, giving them the option to stay at Easton Maudit should they wish to.

Planned Expansion of Vocational Training and Developing Skills

Need

Oakfield plans to extend vocational training and developing skills for the people we support. By extending our service we will be able to support more adults widening their opportunities, reducing isolation, building friendships, and socialising opportunities. Building skills that will enhance lives of all people living with a disability.

To do this we intend to build a care farm, with a range of animals. This farm will be a calming nature environment, improving mental health and wellbeing for all those who visit. It also provides a meaningful activity for those we support – an opportunity to care for and learn about the farm animals.

We also intend to build an outdoor learning hub cabin, providing another learning opportunity for the people we support. This cabin will aim to improve the learning of life skills at Oakfield, enhancing feelings of purpose and engagement with meaningful activities. It will also provide a fun, enjoyable and interactive environment for learning.

In addition, Oakfield plans to create an ‘seed to plate’ scheme, where we would aim to grow food from scratch, including tending to, harvesting, cooking and finally eating the food. This process would allow the people we support to learn about the food cycle, giving them opportunity to tend to and harvest food. The ‘seed to plate’ scheme would create a meaningful activity for those we support. It would also have many environmental and health benefits for the wider community.

  • Provide support and learning of a range of vocational skills to improve people's opportunities
