The Oakfield Journey

01

What we offer

At Oakfield you are able to rent your own flat and have your own tenancy agreement with us as your landlord. If you are to live in our supported living accommodation as a person who requires support, you will be able to apply for Housing Benefit. This covers your rent and service charge.

The rent has been assessed as a fair and reasonable rent by North Northamptonshire Council. We will help you to understand your tenancy agreement and what it means for you. We can also work with families/solicitors if required to make sure you have the help you need.

The service charge is your contribution to the costs for maintaining the grounds and communal areas of the building, plus the management and administration function.

There are no individual meters in the flats, so all utility costs including electricity, gas and water are shared equally between all the tenants. You will be sent an invoice for your contribution every 3 months.

You are responsible for buying all your food however, we do provide one hot meal each day, which you can order in advance if you choose to do so. All meals are charged at a minimal rate for which you will be invoiced every 3 months.

There is a communal laundry room where you can launder your clothes, bedlinen, and towels with support from staff if required.

We will help you with your money and paying your bills if you require this help. We have stringent processes to make sure your money is safe and properly accounted for. If you have an appointed person to manage your finances, we can work directly with them regarding all payments.

Support you need

Your local authority will assess the level of support you need and, this may be one to one support or shared support. You may require support with personal care and to do the activities you like. Your local authority will pay Oakfield an agreed amount for this service. Alternatively, you may wish to make a direct payment and pay for this yourself.  In addition to your one-to-one support, there is a core cost which covers our chef and night staff. We have waking night staff between 10pm and 7am.

02

What to expect from us

We will provide the support you are assessed as needing when you need it which will be provided by our highly trained group of staff. You will have a named Key Worker, who will work with you to develop your skills, wishes, ambitions and social interaction. Information will be circulated to the support team so that everyone is aware of your choices, decisions and wants, as well as what you do not like or would prefer not to take part in. You will be supported by a team of staff, who will work with you and support you within the home and out in the community.

You have the right to be involved in the recruitment of selection of staff.

All staff go through a rigorous recruitment and inductions process, completing  mandatory training during their 3-month probationary period and regular on-going refresher training. In addition, all staff will be trained for any particular need that is identified, for example epilepsy and diabetes. Our staff receive regular supervision and assessments of their work to ensure they are competent to provide your support.

You will have a detailed support plan. It is important to us that you and your family are fully involved in developing your support plan, as it belongs to you. We will also consider any risks and will do all we can to reduce these, so you can live as full a life as you choose. Where there are any decisions to restrict your freedom or choices, we will ensure we do this correctly and in line with the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

To ensure the support plan remains relevant and up to date, we will hold a circle of support meetings every 3 months. You can invite who you wish to attend the meeting, but it is important to us that we get all the feedback we need to provide you with the best support.

As Oakfield is a community, we hold monthly “Being Heard” meetings. This is where you have another opportunity, along with other people we support, to raise any issues or suggestions you may have. You can tell us what you are happy with and what needs to change.
